Mega Millions Lottery Pays Out $3 Million to New Mexico Gamer

Mega Millions recently announced Paul K from New Mexico, United States as a $3 million prize winner. Paul is a retired engineer in the aerospace industry who has been lucky with lottery games before.  

Paul won $200 playing Powerball on two tickets a few years back. Interestingly, he had ordered a single ticket, but the clerk accidentally printed two with similar sets of numbers. Before this win, the retiree had won an impressive $31,000 payout playing at a regulated gambling operator in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

So, what did it take for Paul K to win the $3 million Megaball payout? On May 31, 2023, he purchased his lucky ticket at the New Mexico Lottery Center. He then selected 18, 38, 53, 62, and 64 as his winning numbers. Unfortunately, he missed out on Mega Ball number 20, which was drawn on April 28, 2023. 

Purchasing the Lucky Multiplier

Typically, Paul’s winning numbers would have attracted a $1 million payout, which is still a life-changing sum by all standards. But Paul was more thoughtful and purchased the Megaplier for an extra $1. This decision was all he needed to add an extra $2 million to his payout. 

It’s believed that the player is an avid fan of math who always ticks his lucky numbers on an online spreadsheet. This time, he realized he had pocketed the mega payout when visiting the lottery operator’s website. 

Speaking to Mega Ball after collecting the win, Paul says he will use part of the jackpot to pay off his home. As a family man, he also intends to share some of this unexpected prize with family members and invest the rest. When Mega Ball asked him to share some lottery tips and strategies, Paul said: “Always use the same numbers and never change your numbers.”
