The Lottery Corporation (TLC) Chief Financial Officer Adam Newman will part ways with the Australian lottery provider, concluding a tenure that began in 2022. Newman will officially leave the standalone listed company on July 1, 2027, while the Board undertakes a successor appointment process in the interim.
Demerger Leadership and Financial Restructuring at TLC
Newman assumed the Chief Financial Officer position in 2022, playing a central role in guiding TLC through its demerger from Tabcorp on June 1, 2022. This transition established TLC as Australia’s largest provider of online lottery games and a standalone ASX-listed business. During his tenure, Newman directed the company through its inaugural Australian debt raising process. His financial management supported the funding required for the extension of the Victorian Public Lottery Licence while strengthening the overall financial flexibility of the corporation.
Following his departure, Newman plans to leverage his executive experience by pursuing a portfolio career that will include board and non-executive director positions. Expressing his commitment to the transition process, Newman stated, “It has been a privilege to help build TLC as a listed company and to work with the finance team, the executive and the Board. I’m proud of what we have achieved and remain committed to supporting a smooth handover to my successor.”
CEO Wayne Pickup Commends Foundation Building
The Lottery Corporation Chief Executive Officer Wayne Pickup acknowledged the foundational work completed during the executive's tenure. Pickup highlighted the structural changes the company navigated during its transition into an independent market entity.
“Adam has made a significant contribution to TLC since the demerger from Tabcorp, helping to establish the Company as a standalone ASX-listed business and building the financial foundations to support our long-term success through a period of significant change,” Pickup said. “On behalf of the Board and the executive team, I thank Adam for his leadership and contribution to TLC and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Recent Scrutiny Over Victorian Lottery Licence and Regulatory Reform
The leadership transition arrives during a period of heightened public scrutiny for TLC, which has faced multiple controversies throughout 2026. The company’s acquisition of a 40-year Victorian lottery licence drew heavy criticism from political opposition leaders, who accused the operator of orchestrating a “secret deal” with the Labor government to secure the long-term contract.
Ellen Sandell, Leader of the Victorian Greens, publicly criticized the government's approach to the lottery sector and the resulting agreement. “If this Labor Government had any integrity and guts they would properly tax the gambling corporations to pay for the things we need, not do dodgy deals with them,” Sandell stated.
Beyond the Victorian licence dispute, TLC has also faced recent accusations regarding its involvement in national regulatory reforms. The corporation was accused of actively lobbying the government to implement a ban on foreign-matched lotteries during the latest round of legislative adjustments affecting the Australian lottery market.
