The long barren run for the Mega Millions jackpot has finally come to an end. This was after a lucky player from Florida, United States, won the $1.602 billion payouts after matching the correct numbers on Tuesday (August 8, 2023).

Florida Player Finally Won Mega Millions Jackpot After Tuesday Night’s Draw

According to the Florida Lottery, the win comes after 31 drawings for the jackpot game without recording a win. In the drawing, a single ticket correctly predicted all six numbers: the white balls 13, 19, 20, 32, and 33, as well as the gold Mega Ball 14. This is the fourth jackpot-winning ticket sold in Florida, United States.

In an official statement, the Mega Millions Consortium lead director, Gretchen Corbin, congratulated Florida’s regulated lottery operator for selling the winning ticket.

He added:

"We congratulate our newest jackpot winner, as well as the more than 43.7 million winners at all prize levels throughout this jackpot run. We also celebrate the funds generated for the many good causes supported by our participating lotteries.”

The latest jackpot win exceeded the previous record of $1.537 billion in South Carolina on October 23, 2018. Mega Millions believes that solid sales are to thank for the record-shuttering $1.6 billion jackpot prize.

The August 8 drawing resulted in more than the jackpot win. The lottery game sold over 7 million winning tickets in other prize levels. For instance, seven tickets had five matching white balls to win the game’s second-tier payout. Two were from North Carolina and Florida, each winning $2 million thanks to the optional Megaplier.

In addition, 166 tickets won the third-tier rewards, 166 tickets nationwide after matching four white balls and the Mega Ball. Mega Millions said that 28 of those tickets came with the optional Megaplier, each winning $20,000. The other 138 winning third-tier tickets are each worth $10,000.

Although the jackpot had been rolling on since it was claimed in New York on April 18, Mega Millions has now created seven jackpot winners so far in 2023. Only 2019 has had seven jackpot winners in a year since 2016.

Congratulations from LottoRanker to the newest dollar billionaire!
